Often called “allergy shots,” immunotherapy works by training your body to lose its sensitivity to the substances that trigger an allergic response. Specifically, introducing tiny amounts of your trigger allergen into your body stimulates the production of protective antibodies. Over time, your body will experience a reduced allergic response…and you may experience no symptoms.

Also, studies have shown that early treatment for allergies with immunotherapy can slow or even stop the “allergic march,” and in some cases can keep people from developing asthma. Allergies often start in early childhood as eczema or allergic rhinitis, but then “march” through the body, ending with the development of asthma. Immunotherapy is the only treatment we have that could prevent asthma, a potentially lifelong (and life-threatening) illness. Put simply, immunotherapy’s role is to reduce or end your allergies and end your suffering.
