Robert A. Vande Stouwe, MD, PhD
“I chose to become an allergy and immunology specialist because I was greatly interested in how our immune system can both benefit us and at times cause a wide variety of illnesses, from sinus problems and asthma to reactions to bee stings, foods and medications. Learning how these illnesses develop in us and how to best treat them has remained an interest since my allergy specialist fellowship training. New treatments that make a positive difference in people’s lives continue to be developed. The ability to improve a person’s quality of life during an initial office visit by initiating or adjusting treatment is very gratifying.
“My goal as an allergist/immunologist is to always fully understand the medical concerns that have brought a patient in to see me, so that a proper diagnostic and treatment plan can be started. I want every patient to feel that all of their concerns were addressed during their visit with me, that their time was respected and the visit was not rushed. I want all of my patients to feel that they can recommend me to their family members and friends.”
Dr. Vande Stouwe and his wife live in Columbia and support local museums and cultural events. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, listening to music, visiting the beach and spending time with his children and young grandchildren.
